Born on September 9, 1953 at Vijapur, Gujarat, Chief Justice Mohit Shah, son of a District & Sessions Judge, has served the judiciary as a puisne judge for 14 years and as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and later the Bombay High Court for 5 years. His judicial career has seen him preside over benches adjudicating on questions of Constitutional Law, Environmental Laws, Tax Laws, as well as Arbitration and Commercial Laws. Subjects close to him include the role of Arbitration and Mediation as Appropriate Dispute Resolution procedures and not merely as Alternatives; Docket Management in Court and the role of ADR in reducing backlog as well as the interplay between Municipal/Public Law and Commercial/Private Law.
Chief Justice Mohit Shah retired as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on September 8, 2015. After retirement, he does arbitration as Sole Arbitrator/Presiding Arbitrator in Domestic as well as International Arbitration.
