Mr. M.R. Prasanna (Pras), a native of Mysore, holds a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Mysore and is a Gold Medalist.
After being an independent Counsel for about 7 years he worked as Head of the Legal function for over 28 years with different organizations like Alfa Laval, Brooke Bond India Limited (now part of Hindustan Unilever).
He was the Chief Legal Officer of Larsen & Toubro Limited, Mumbai for seven years.
For about 12 years, Pras was the General Counsel of the Aditya Birla Group, spearheading mergers and acquisitions.
Since May 2010, Pras has relocated to Bangalore as an Independent Consultant primarily for corporates, advising them on a variety of corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions.
Pras has been and continues to be a Director on the Boards of many of the Aditya Birla Group Companies both in India and abroad. He also serves as a Director on the Boards of Indian Companies.
He is a Life Member of the Institute of Directors.
He is on the Advisory Board of: (I) OPC Asset Solutions Ltd, an Operating Lease Company and (II) Economic Law Practices, a large law firm headquartered in Mumbai.
During his stint in Mumbai, he was the Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry and also played the role of Advisor to the Managing Committee of Bombay Chamber.
He is currently active in the working of various committees of The Bangalore Chamber of Commerce & Industries as also the local chapter of the Confederation of the Indian Industries.
He is a Member of the International Bar Association.
He is a Member of the Editorial Boards of India Business Law Journal, Hong Kong and Asia I.P. Magazine on Intellectual Property Law.
During his corporate career Pras used ADR and arbitration as an effective tool for resolution of disputes and after having been involved in a number of arbitration, he developed a penchant to become an arbitrator which he did in 2011.
He is on the Indian Arbitrators panel of
- Singapore International Arbitration Centre,
- The Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration
- The Nani Palkhivala Arbitration Centre in Chennai, India
- The Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation (IIAM), Kochi
He has just completed two SIAC arbitrations (One as a Sole Arbitrator and the other as a member of the tribunal) and he is now an arbitrator in the third.
He is an IIAM Certified Mediator. He has also been a JAMS-CAMP trained Mediator.
He is a Life Member of the International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), New Delhi.
He is the Vice-President (South) with India International ADR Association, Kochi, India.
He is a member of the South India Users Council of the LCIA.
He is a Member of the Advisory Board of Centre for Advanced Mediation Practice, Bangalore.
Pras is an Advocate and is a member of the Karnataka Bar Council. He appears in Court in select corporate matters.
Pras was conferred:
- The “Outstanding Leader Award” by Mr.Kumara Mangalam Birla, the Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, in 2002.
- The “Best In House Counsel” award by Asia Law, Hong Kong in 2005 and again in 2007.
- he “National Law Day” award by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in November 2006.
- The “Outstanding Achievement” award by IFLR - Law Asia in July 2011
- The “Life Time Achievement Award” by Legal Era in March 2014.
In 2010, he was recognized in the Hall of Fame as India’s top 50 lawyers.
Pras has attended courses in The IIM-Ahmedabad, The Northwestern University (Kellogg), Chicago, and The Harvard Law School.
Pras is a regular speaker on diverse topics before various forums, both national and international.
He conducts general & bespoke training programmes on a variety of legal topics both for legal and non-legal executives
